SRD SASSA Status Check

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) introduced the SASSA status check in May 2020 to support individuals who lost their jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic and were not receiving unemployment insurance (UIF) or student financial aid (NSFAS). This grant was named as SRD (Social Relief of Distress) grant. And initially provided R350 per month to each approved beneficiary.

In April 2024, the government of South Africa increased the grant amount to R370 to help citizens cope with inflation. SASSA applicants and beneficiaries can easily check their grant application status and payment dates online.

If you have applied for the SRD grant, you can check your upcoming money date by using the above SRD status check tool. The service is available to South African citizens who have applied for the grant or are active SASSA beneficiaries.

How to Lodge Appeal Online for Your SASSA R370 SRD Grant at srd.sassa.gov.za/appeal?

If your SASSA application is rejected at any point starting from April 2022, you have the option to appeal by visiting the DSD (Department of Social Development) appeals website. Appeals are processed by ITSAA and need to be submitted within 90 days of rejection.

Follow these steps to lodge an appeal for your SRD R370 Grant:

  • Visit the SRD appeal website via link https://srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals.
  • Once you are on the SASSA appeal website, click the button that says “click here to lodge an appeal or check appeal status”.
  • Complete the form by entering your 13-digit African ID number and the phone number used for your SASSA application to request a PIN.
  • Now, you will receive a PIN via SMS on your phone. Enter it on the website.
  • Choose the month for which your grant was rejected. Separate appeals are required for each month.
  • Attach the necessary documents to prove your eligibility for the grant (e.g., the last six months’ bank statements, proof of residence, ID).
  • Provide a concise explanation detailing the reason for your appeal.
  • Finally, double-check all your details to ensure they are correct, then submit the form.

After you submit the appeal, the independent tribunal will review it and decide within 60 to 90 days. If ITSAA agrees with you, they will overturn the decision of SASSA, and you will start receiving the SRD grant payments.

SASSA Appeal Status Check

If your SASSA application was declined, and you believe this decision was incorrect, you have the option to appeal. You can submit your appeal by the above described procedure.

SASSA Status Check 2025

SASSA status check is a method to track the application status and payment status of SASSA beneficiaries. It can be performed using different methods and platforms. I have described each method in the below step-by-step guide. But before checking your SASSA status, please make sure you have the following:

  • Your South African ID Number
  • The phone number you used in your SASSA application

Once you have these details, choose one of the methods below to check your R370 application.

1. SASSA Status Check From Our Website

My name is Jayshawn Jamie, the author, developer and administrator of this website. Since the introduction of SASSA grants, I have helped thousands of citizens in their grant applications. With this extensive experience, I launched the SGSC website to help even more people. I also developed the free SASSA SRD status check tool, allowing you to check your status directly on this website without needing to visit other platforms.

This is a simple and user-friendly application status check service. You need to follow the below steps:

  • Go to the top of this page and navigate to the SASSA Status Check tool.
  • Enter your South African ID Card number in the upper row and mobile number in lower row.
  • Click on the โ€œCheck Statusโ€ button.
  • Now, your status will be shown promptly below the form.

2. Checking via SASSA Official Website (https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status)

You can also use SASSA’s official website for your R370 status check (formerly R350 status check). It is specifically designed for SRD grant applications and status check results. To check your application status on the SASSA website, please follow the below steps:

  •  Visit the official SASSA website through the link https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status.
  • After being redirected to the website, provide your valid South African ID Number and the Cell Phone Number that you used to submit the application.
  • After that, click on the โ€œsubmitโ€ button. Your status will be shown immediately on the screen.

This is a convenient way to check your status directly on the official platform.

3. SASSA SRD R350 App Download

SASSA recently introduced the App as well to make status checks further easier. Now, you can also check your SRD SASSA status, appeal status and reconsideration status from a mobile application. You can do it by following these steps:

  • Open the Play Store on your Android phone and search for โ€œSASSA SRD R350 Appโ€. If you are an iPhone user, then search for the same application from your App Store.
  • Now, download the application that appeared at the first position on the search.
  • After downloading, open the App and provide your ID Number and Phone number.
  • Now, click the โ€œCheck Statusโ€ button and your status will be shown on the screen.

4. SASSA SRD Status Check Via Moya App โ€“ Data Free Method

The other method I like is checking the SRD application status through the Moya App. It is a data-free method, and you only need an internet connection to download the app.

Once the Moya app is downloaded, you can check your status without needing an internet connection. Here are the steps you need to follow:

  • Download the Moya App from Play Store (This step requires an internet connection).
  • After the app is downloaded, open the application, navigate to the โ€œDiscoveryโ€ tab, and select the โ€œSASSA GRANTโ€.
  • Now select the โ€œSASSA SRD statusโ€ from the menu and click on โ€œApplication Statusโ€.
  • Enter your ID number, Mobile Number and click the “submit” button.
  • After clicking the submit button, your status will be shown promptly on the screen.

5. Check Your Payday Via SMS

You can also check your SASSA grant payday status through SMS by following these steps:

If you are unable to access the portal, you can also check your application status by contacting SASSA on WhatsApp. Here are the steps:

  • Now type โ€œSASSAโ€ and send it to that WhatsApp number.

The SASSA representative will ask you for your South African ID number and the phone number that you used to apply for the SASSA grant to confirm your identity. After providing the correct information, they will inform you about your current application status.

Important Note: You must call the SASSA helpline from the phone number you used to apply for your SASSA grant. Otherwise, they will not be able to verify you.

8. Visiting SASSA Office For the Application Update

You can also visit a SASSA office in person to inquire about your application status. Find your nearest SASSA office on our contact SASSA page.

Before visiting the office, you must have your South African ID and the phone number you used in your SASSA application. SASSA Agent will ask you for these details to confirm your identity. After confirmation, they will inform you about your application status.

SASSA Status Approved But No Payment Date

If your SASSA status is showing โ€˜approvedโ€™ but no payment dates, it means that you have passed the SASSA eligibility criteria and have been approved for the grant. However, It does not confirm that your funds have been released.

Please follow the below steps to resolve this issue:

  • Recheck Your Banking Details: Occasionally, payment delays happen because of inaccurate banking information. You should confirm your banking details by doing this:
  • Verify Your Banking Details Online: You should login to the SASSA portal to confirm if your banking details are correct.
  • Update Your Banking Information: Ensure your banking information is accurate and update it promptly if needed. it can be done online from the SASSA portal or by visiting the local SASSA office. Once corrected, you will receive your payment date within 7 business days.
  • Verify With Your Bank: Verify with your bank to ensure your account is active and capable of receiving SASSA payments
  • SASSA Delays: SASSA conducts additional verification checks to confirm applicant details is accurate and the grant is given to the right person. That also results in delayed payment dates. In this scenario, you should:
  • Check SASSA Website Regularly: SASSA posts updates regarding payment dates and verification status on their official website. You can log in with your ID to access the real-time updates about your grant status.
  • Be Patient: SASSA handles a large volume of applications daily, making occasional delays in procedures unavoidable despite their best efforts. Processing applications takes time; please allow SASSA to complete the review.
  • Contact SASSA: After verifying that your banking details are correct and the month has been passed, contact the SASSA helpline for further assistance. You can call their call center at 0800 60 10 11 or visit your local SASSA office. While contacting:

Important Note: Your payday status reflects your actual payment status. If it is showing ‘payment pending’, it means your payment is being processed. You only need to follow up if the status shows ‘paid,’ but the payment hasn’t been received yet.

SASSA Status Check: Understanding the Pending Status

If your SASSA SRD application status is showing pending, it means that your application is still under review and SASSA is verifying your details. SASSA follows these steps to verify your application:

  • Verification Process: When you submit your SRD R370 application, SASSA verifies your identity and financial status from different government departments to determine your eligibility for the grant. It includes verification from the Department of Home Affairs, South African Revenue Services (SARS) and a few other government departments.
  • Waiting Time: SASSA takes 60 to 90 days to process each application. During this period, your application stays under the status pending. They handle millions of applications monthly, so the processing time is understandable.
  • What Happens After Approval: After your application is approved, SASSA sends an SMS to your registered phone number to inform you. The message also contains the instructions to provide your bank account details to process the payment. Please provide your bank details correctly to avoid any delays in your payment.
  • Payment Processing Time: After you provide your banking details, SASSA takes up to 7 days to process your payment. So, keep checking your SASSA status regularly to get an update on your upcoming pay date.
  • What Does โ€œReferredโ€ Status Mean?: If your application status shows “Referred”, it means that SASSA has sent your documents to another government department for detailed verification. Once the verification is completed, your status will be updated.

Steps to Take After SASSA Status Pending

If your status is pending for more than 90 days:

  • Review your banking details in the SASSA application to confirm they are accurate. If there are any mistakes in your banking details, fix them and wait for 7 days for approval.
  • If your banking details are correct, call the SASSA helpline or visit your nearest local SASSA office to inquire. The representatives will assist you in fixing your application status.

Why is My SASSA Status Check Declined?

When applying for a SASSA SRD grant, there may be instances where your application is not approved. Donโ€™t worry; understanding the reasons can help you resolve the issue. Here, Iโ€™ll break down all the common reasons why SASSA declines applications:

  • Bank Balance Over R624: If your bank balance is above R624, your application may not meet SASSA’s means test criteria. This grant is intended for people without any income source, so having too much money in your bank account will disqualify you.
  • Age Limit: To qualify, you must be between 18 and 60 years old. Applicants outside this range are not eligible.
  • Receiving Other Government Assistance: SASSA will not approve your grant If you are already receiving support from other government programs. These include the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), or any other social security benefits. SRD grant is intended for people without any income source.
  • Incorrect Details: Applications with incomplete or incorrect information may not be approved. So, please make sure that everything is correct while filling out your application.
  • Delays and Appeals: SASSA processes a large number of applications each month, which may occasionally lead to delays. So, if you believe your rejection is unfair, you can appeal your grant to get the approval.
  • Residency/Citizenship Criteria: The other criteria is that you must be a South African citizen, Asylum Seeker or special permit holder to qualify for the SRD grant.

What to Do After a SASSA Status Decline?

If your SASSA SRD grant application is declined, donโ€™t worry. You can still appeal it to get it approved. Follow these easy step-by-step instructions to quickly resolve your issue:

  • Review the Reason for Decline: First, you need to check out the reason for the rejection. The reason will be given in your application status. Once you understand the reason and believe that SASSA’s decision was wrong, you can appeal it accordingly.
  • Appeal the Decision: Now, the next step is to visit the SASSA website and go to the appeal page. The appeal section is present on the SASSA website. While submitting the appeal, provide a clear reason why you think your are eligible for the grant. Also, submit any document proof that makes your case stronger.
  • Re-Apply with Correct Information: If your application was not appproved due to incorrect information, then you can re-apply with accurate details.
  • Wait for SASSA Decision: Usually, SASSA takes up to 90 days to finalise the decision of an appeal. They may also ask you for additional documents for further verification. So, be patient and keep checking your email and phone. Reply as soon as possible when you receive the response from SASSA.

Understanding the reason for declination and filing a thoughtful appeal can improve your chances.

You need to select your preferred method (Cash Send or Bank) or submit your banking details on the SASSA website.
  • Reapplication Pending: This means that you have not submitted a reapplication for the SASSA R370 grant. You should submit an application from the SRD website. • Self-Exclusion Response Found: It means that you have voluntarily opted out of the SASSA grant. While applying, SASSA asks the question if you are working or earning more than R370 per month.
