- Select the month of your rejected grant. (Note: File separate appeals for each rejected SRD grant month.)
- Attach necessary documents (e.g., last six months’ bank statements, proof of residence, ID).
- Provide a concise reason for your appeal.
- Submit the form after attaching documents and reason for your appeal.
After submitting your appeal, the independent tribunal will review it and make a decision within 60 to 90 days. If ITSAA agrees with you, they will overturn the decision of SASSA and you will start receiving the SRD grants payments else you will be notified if your appeal is declined.
SASSA Reconsideration Status Check (May 2020 to March 2022)
The reconsideration period for May 2020 to March 2022 has ended, and no additional applications for this period will be considered. Please follow the below steps to check your reconsideration appeal status:

- Scroll to the bottom and click the “click here to proceed” button in the “Asylum Seekers and Special Permit Holders” section.
- A new page will open. Head over to the tab “Lookup Payment ID to collect payment at Pick ‘n Pay”.
- Enter your file number, passport number, and the mobile phone number you used for your SASSA application.
- After your information is validated and is correct, you will be provided with further instructions to update your banking details.
- After submitting your banking details, wait for SASSA approval.
SASSA will take up to 7 business days to approve your banking details. After approval, you will start receiving your grant payment in your bank account from the next payment cycle.

If your financial condition improves so much that you no longer need the COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant, then you can cancel your grant. Please follow the steps below:
- Visit the official SASSA portal at https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/cancellation.
- Enter your 13-digit ID and cellphone number used for the application.
- Click “Send Pin” to receive OTP.
- Enter OTP to verify identity.
- Click “Cancel My Grant” and confirm cancellation.
- Receive a confirmation message on your registered SASSA phone number.
Receiving a SASSA grant when you are not longer eligible is considered fraud and can lead to criminal charges, fine or even making you ineligible from receiving any future government grants.
How to Reinstate Your Cancelled SASSA Grant?
If you previously cancelled your SRD grant due to improved financial condition but are now again facing financial difficulties, you can reinstate it again:

3. Using Cash Payment Method:
If you did not provide the bank details and also don’t have a SASSA card, then you will need to collect your grant money in cash from the local Post Office branches (SAPO/Post Bank) or the following SASSA-partnered retail outlets:
