This does not guarantee that you will receive the grant payments, but it shows that you are one step closer to receiving payments.
Application Approved Status: When you see “Approved Status,” it means your SASSA grant application has been accepted. You’ll get the grant money once it’s approved. You’ll be notified through SMS, email, or letter about the approval. After that, you can pick how you want to receive the money: through your bank account, Post Office account, or a cash card.

There are few ways you can use to check your SASSA application status and payment status online. I will explain all the methods I have tried myself one by one. But before checking your SASSA status, please make sure you have the following two items:

Your South African ID Number
Your Phone Number (The mobile number you used in your SASSA application)

Once you have them, you can follow the below process to check your SASSA status.

1. Checking your Status From This Page (SGSC Website):

The easiest way is to check your status is from the above status check tool in this page:

Go to the top of this page and navigate to the SASSA Status Check form.
Enter your South African ID Card number and mobile number.
Click on the “Check Status” button.
Your status will be shown promptly below the form.

2. Check SASSA Status Through the srd.sassa.gov.za Website Online

Here are the steps you need to follow to check your status from the srd.sassa.gov.za online:

Visit the official SASSA website through the link https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status.
After being redirected to the website, provide your valid South African ID Number and the Cell Phone Number that you used to submit the application.
After that, click on the “submit” button. Your status will be shown immediately on the screen.

It is a convenient method to check your status without any delay and without going anywhere.

3. Check SASSA SRD Status Via Moya App – Data Free Method

The other method I like is checking the SRD application status through the Moya App. It is a data-free method, and you only need an internet connection to download the app.

Once the Moya app is downloaded, you will not need the internet and will be able to check your status without the internet. Here are the steps you need to follow:

Download the Moya App from PlayStore (This step requires an internet connection).
After the app is downloaded, open the application, navigate to the “Discovery” tab, and select the “SASSA GRANT”.
Now select the “SASSA SRD status” from the menu and click on “Application Status”.
Enter your ID number, Mobile Number and click the “submit” button.
After clicking the submit button, your status will be shown promptly on the screen.

4. Check SASSA SRD Status Through SMS

You can also check your SASSA grant status through SMS by following steps:

Open the text messaging app on your mobile.
Type the message “SASSA [ID Number]”. ID number should be your valid South African ID.
Send this message to 082 046 8553.
You will receive a response with the information of your current SASSA R350 grant status.

5. Check SRD R350 status via WhatsApp

If you are unable to access the portal, you can also check your application status by WhatsApp. Here are the steps:

First, add the phone number 082 046 8553 to your WhatsApp contact list.
Now send the word “SASSA” to that WhatsApp number.
After the response, reply with the word “STATUS”
You will be asked for a reference number in the chat, reply with “YES” (Only reply with “YES” if you already have the reference number).

The South African government announced that there is no specific date to receive the SRD grant and the payment schedule will be shared every month at the end of the previous month. Financial aid will be provided to grant beneficiaries for each month they qualify for. Payment dates released by SASSA for the year 2024 – 2025 are following but still there can be delays due to public holidays or other unforeseen circumstances.

If you are an Asylum Seeker with a valid File Number or Special Permit Holder from Zimbabwe, Angola, or Lesotho, then please follow these steps:

Scroll to the bottom and click the “click here to proceed” button in the “Asylum Seekers and Special Permit Holders” section.
A new page will open. Head over to the tab “Lookup Payment ID to collect payment at Pick ‘n Pay”.
Enter your file number, passport number, and the mobile phone number you used for your SASSA application.
After your information is validated and is correct, you will be provided with further instructions to update your banking details.
After submitting your banking details, wait for SASSA approval.

SASSA will take up to 7 business days to approve your banking details. After approval, you will start receiving your grant payment in your bank account from the next payment cycle.

Important Note:

SASSA cannot deposit grants in another person’s bank account.
The Bank account and mobile phone number must be in your name.
Once new bank details are verified, grant payment will be deposited into your new bank account.

How do I Cancel My COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant Application?

If your financial condition improves so much that you no longer need the COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant, then you can cancel your grant. Please follow the steps below:

Visit the official SASSA portal at https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/cancellation.
Enter your 13-digit ID and cellphone number used for the application.
Click “Send Pin” to receive OTP.
Enter OTP to verify identity.
Click “Cancel My Grant” and confirm cancellation.
Receive a confirmation message on your registered SASSA phone number.

Receiving a SASSA grant when you are not longer eligible is considered fraud and can lead to criminal charges, fine or even making you ineligible from receiving any future government grants.

How to Reinstate Your Cancelled SASSA Grant?

If you previously cancelled your SRD grant due to improved financial condition but are now again facing financial difficulties, you can reinstate it again:

Visit the SASSA Web Portal at https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/reinstate.
Enter your South African ID number and the phone number registered with SASSA.
Click “send pin” and verify the OTP.
Choose from the following reasons for grant reinstatement:

If you selected a bank account as a payment method and have provided your bank details while submitting your SASSA application, then the grant money will be deposited to your bank account directly. You can withdraw it from any ATM or by visiting the bank branch.

2. Collecting Via SASSA Card:

If you have a SASSA Card, then you can withdraw money from ATMs or any SASSA-selected stores that provide free withdrawal.

3. Using Cash Payment Method:

If you did not provide the bank details and also don’t have a SASSA card, then you will need to collect your grant money in cash from the local Post Office branches (SAPO/Post Bank) or the following SASSA-partnered retail outlets:

To withdraw grant money from SASSA-selected stores, please follow these steps:
