Step-By-Step Guide to Buy Electricity Through Your SASSA Card

I have outlined the complete guide to buying electricity using the SASSA card. You only need to follow these steps:

Step 1: Ensure You Have a Reliable Internet Connection

First, check the functionality of your internet connection. You must have to arrange a working internet connection to run the banking app. So, arrange a stable mobile data or wifi connection, whatever suits you best.

Step 2: Install Your Mobile Banking Application

After having a stable internet connection, you need to download and install your bank application on your mobile phone. You can download it from the Play Store for Android and use the App Store for iPhone.

Tip: The most used and popular mobile banking apps are Nedbank, Capitec, Absa, FNB, and Standard Bank. Using these mobile banking applications can give you a different and better experience.

Step 3: Sign in to Your Mobile Banking App

Next, sign up your bank app or sign in if you already have an account. To create a new account, you will enter your personal information and SASSA card details and create your username and password.

Step 4: Link Your SASSA Card with the Banking App

Now, you will register your SASSA card on your mobile banking app. For this purpose, you need to find “Card Management” or “Linked Accounts” on your banking app.  

After getting the option, enter your SASSA card, CVV number, expiry date, and other details (Depending on the app) to link your app with your SASSA card.

Step 5: Find the Pay Electricity Bill Option

Next, search the “Pay Electricity Bill” option in the app menu. The option name can vary depending on the app. So, look for the term “Electricity” to discover this option.

Step 6: Enter the Amount of Your Electricity Bill

Type the amount of the electricity bill, the meter number, and the electricity connection account number in the given sections. Select “SASSA card” as your payment method and click the “Pay Now” button.

Important Note: Please cross-check all the information you have entered. The app will not proceed with your transaction using false details.

Step 7: Receive OTP to Confirm Payment

After clicking the pay now button, you will receive an OTP from your bank. Put this one-time password in the given section and finalize the payment.

Step 8: Get the Payment Transaction

After the transaction, you will receive the receipt on your phone in an SMS. It will show that your electricity bill gets paid.

Please remember that paying your electricity bill through a SASSA card is not free. Your bank will charge a nominal fee for this transaction.
